Summer Information

EAST HIGH SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED BEGINNING JUNE 9TH
East High School will be closed to students, staff, families, and guests for the Summer due to referendum construction

SUMMER OFFICE HOURS
East's in-person Summer Semester Office Hours at Black Hawk Middle School are June 20 - July 27, Monday-Thursday, 7:45am-12:00pm. After Thursday, July 27th the school office will be closed until school begins in the Fall.

ITEM/MATERIALS RETURN & PICK UP
To pick up or return physical items (yearbooks, textbooks, graduation caps/gowns, diplomas, athletic uniforms, etc) please email or call ahead (sjesser@madison.k12.wi.us or 608-204-4361) and pick up or drop off items at East's in-person Summer Semester location, Black Hawk Middle School, between June 20 - July 27, Monday-Thursday, from 7:45am-12:00pm. After Thursday, July 27th the school office will be closed until school begins in the Fall.

SUMMER BUS PASSES
To make it easier for students to ride around this summer Madison Metro and MMSD have teamed up to provide free summer youth passes to all 6th graders through high school students. Any East High School student can pick up a free pass in their Neighborhood Office between  May 15, 2023 and June 7, 2023 or at the Madison Metro Transit office at 1245 East  Washington Ave starting May 15, 2023.

SCHOOL CALENDAR

MMSD is committed to ensuring every student in our school community feels engaged, connected and supported! One way we ensure that this happens is by making sure students have the knowledge and skills for academic achievement at the next grade level. Summer Semester is a learning support for students to stay on track for graduation to become college, career and community ready.  

WHO

The Summer of 2023 will offer credit recovery opportunities for students entering grades 10, 11 or 12 in the fall of 2023, and for students who are short credits in order to graduate in August 2023. There will be limited First Time Credit for students entering grades 9-12. 

HOW

Courses will be offered virtually and in-person for students attending MMSD's high schools. Course availability depends on staffing and course enrollment.

WHERE

Due to referendum construction at the comprehensive high schools, MMSD's in-person Summer sites are as follows:

  • LaFollette in person @ Whitehorse Middle School
  • East in person @ Black Hawk Middle School
  • West in person @ Wright Middle School
  • Memorial in person @ Jefferson Middle School
  • Capital in person @ Lapham

WHEN

Summer Semester Session begins on Tuesday, June 20th and ends on Thursday, July 27th and takes place Monday through Thursday.  No school July 3rd or 4th.

The Course Catalog and First Time Credit Interest Form are available at mmsd.org/summer-semester

REGISTRATION

Contact your high school counselor before June 10th to enroll in credit recovery courses. First time credit course requests must be made through this google form.
